Reviews of the book ranged from mixed to positive, with many literary critics praising Bradley's ability to give new characterizations to legendary figures. The Firebrand has been overshadowed by the popularity of The Mists of Avalon, receiving less attention and critical praise. Simon & Schuster released The Firebrand on Octoin hardcover, and it was issued in paperback in September 1988. It is her only novel set in ancient Greece. To appeal to a wider readership, The Firebrand includes fewer elements of fantasy than Bradley's previous works. Bradley wrote it after the success of her 1983 novel The Mists of Avalon, a re-telling of the Arthurian legend from a female perspective. The novel has been described as belonging to the genres of revisionist history and feminist literature, and employs themes of gender, religion, and power. In Bradley's story, Kassandra is presented as a strong and insightful woman, rather than as a sufferer of insanity. As in the Iliad, Kassandra foresees catastrophe for her city but few pay heed to her warnings. The Firebrand is written from the point of view of Kassandra, the prophet daughter of King Priam of Troy, and also features other prominent characters from Greek mythology. Set in the ancient city of Troy, the novel is a re-telling of Homer's epic poem, the Iliad. The Firebrand is a 1987 historical fantasy novel by American author Marion Zimmer Bradley. 5/30/2023 0 Comments Boracay Vows by Maida MalbyI always eagerly anticipate books featuring POC leads, and that is one of several reasons I’m excited for Tif Marcelo’s Once Upon a Sunset. Most dry cat foods are full of processed carbohydrates, which allow them to be made into a dry kibble form. The most common form of diabetes seen in the cat is where the ability to produce insulin has been transiently or permanently reduced. One of the biggest and most important factors as to the high incidence of this problem in cats is the exclusive feeding and recommendation of dry food only diets to our feline friends. Charon’s Crossing Tea and Treats is a soft and warm space filled with mismatched furniture, vined plants, and a powerful scent of spices. And all this takes place in a cosy tea shop in the woods, that functions as a waystation for the recently deceased. Instead, these stories explain a deeper truth that cannot be understood outside of the narrative device. In the novel, Rushdie places the Old Zone in the Twilight Strip, representing his belief that the oldest of narratives are not representations of either good or evil. These stories became sacred because they attempted to put a narrative to the deepest seeded beliefs of humanity. These stories were originally oral traditions that were later written down and edited into texts that some came to view as sacred. The Old Zone is Rushdie’s metaphor for the religious and spiritual traditions that provide the oldest stories in humanity. To do so, he travels to the Old Zone in the Twilight Strip of Kahani, a place in between darkness and light, to battle Khattam-Shud, the Prince of Silence. Haroun must find a way for his father to tell stories once again. In the novel Haroun must travel to Kahani, an invisible moon of the earth that holds the Sea of Stories. The novel is partly autobiographical, partly philosophical, partly theoretical, but mostly a fun adventure story that itself relies on narratives dating back to the earliest oral traditions. In Haroun and the Sea of Stories, Salman Rushdie uses an adventure narrative to ask complex and nuanced questions on the role of story and fiction in modern culture. 5/29/2023 0 Comments Beartown novelIf you like John Irving, if you love Richard Russo, if you want a novel that is just plain wonderful, read Beartown!” When that future is threatened, Beartown’s residents are forced to show what they really stand for.
